You open some interesting areas for discussion. I find much of interest in your post. My concern with it is not what you say but how it might be interpreted. There is no end in sight to the things left to be accomplished in this world. We are drowning in our own inability to provide for a high global standard of living without destroying the planet in the process. In the arts we have not more than scratched the surface of human expression and appreciation for the beauty of nature as well as our creative place in nature. In our politics we still resemble apes with clubs. And in terms of ability to embrace cultural diversity around the world we have been unable to get very far. If we stop where we are it is only a matter of time -- a very short time -- before we will sink into a miserable sea of our own unproductive use of resources and time. We are in a race against our own inefficiency and our own primitive instincts. I hope we defy the odds and find the wisdom to keep going and find a far better future than the current level of productivity could possibly support.

The future is in biotech, nanotech... Probably also new applications resulting from buildout of infrastructure, fiberoptics and wireless. Perhaps many of the promises of the late 90's become reality. This current housing and credit bubble just a smokescreen to fool the masses because if this is the holy grail for the twentyfirst century we are all screwed in this country.
