"Is the "war on terror" really a war? Would we give these powers for the "war on drugs" or the "war on poverty"?"

And since we're not likely to "win" any of those endless "wars", do we want to just shitcan our Constitutional protections until people forget we ever had them in the first place? Our little chimp Caesar seems to love his "war powers"! Will he EVER feel like giving them up? Why don't we say that no President has "war powers" unless Congress declares war? That's how it's SUPPOSED to work, according to the constitution we honor so. Congress hasn't declared war since WW II!

Bush Caught on Tape: “A Wiretap Requires A Court Order. Nothing Has Changed.”

Bush, April 2004:

Transcript:

Secondly, there are such things as roving wiretaps. Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires — a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we’re talking about chasing down terrorists, we’re talking about getting a court order before we do so. It’s important for our fellow citizens to understand, when you think Patriot Act, constitutional guarantees are in place when it comes to doing what is necessary to protect our homeland, because we value the Constitution.

Is the "war on terror" really a war?

Absolutely not. It's a Bush propaganda campaign to make it easier for him to do things that the electorate doesn't support.
