Bush's "victory" image is really a symbolic dream. To be assured of victory would indeed take many years, and may in fact never be possible. Our military cannot assure such a victory, only smarts, honest engagement and good luck can.

So it's an unrealistic statement of Bush's to make. It's purely political, not realistic.

Besides, the war isn't either going or over, there are degrees of US presence. Within six months approximately, it makes sense for US troops to be largely invisible on the Iraqi street. That alone should help minimize the anger and insurgency.

However, we will have to keep strike forces nearby just in case. And if any terrorists show their heads, we take them off.
