To me it would be preferable to just not comment instead of lying. This was not forced out of him. It was freely given. If you lie then pretty soon people start thinking you're a liar.

Now all the opinion makers are scrambling to find some excuse. One explanation is that when the NSA wiretaps they don't call it a wiretap. It's called something else.

Your comment is just another lame justification for the lie, IMO.
