>This is the standard answer. However, I think it misses a crucial element and that is the growing obsolescence of human capability.

Regli,

The cars of today are 100 times more reliable than those of 1910. How come such a large number of people are working in the car repair business?

The computers of today are much more reliable than 20 years ago. How come 5 million computer technicians are out there fixing things?

When one technology becomes reliable or powerful, engineers and designers will stretch performance and feature requirements that would ultimately weaken the system, and result in human intervention.

Though just as happened to the animals above, some of the more attractive and feature rich ones will continue to function for pleasure and convenience for the full value contributors but the future of the rest (most) will be in serious doubt.

Regli I hear Nintendogs was a big hit, I know my nieces love that - REAL dogs require poop scoopers and remembering to go to the pet store for supplies and buying dog food and medicines and such - UGG - nintendogs or sony Aibo is such a much easier PET to maintain eh? I remember REpet in the 6th day with governator. If my grandpa was alive - he would probably hunt down and assissinate the creator of a program that makes kids love virtual pets more than REAL ones - hehe.

Humans are fallable and conform to peer pressures for whatever reasons - perhaps our machines will rise above this. Why do you think the wiki creator was ashamed of his Porn connections? Perhaps he found errors and fixed them? Who knows his mind better than himself eh?
