The only reason the story was broken is because the law was not being followed. Had Bush followed the law and allowed for Judicial oversight we wouldn't be having this discussion. The spy program would have remained secret. But something was going on that alerted a patriot that wrong doing was going on.

It opens the door up to the questions of which Americans are being spied on and why.

Sorry...but we can't win the war on terror and spread democracy by treading on civil rights to get there, or by holding illegal detainees or by torturing taxi drivers in Abu Ghraib. All signs of a failure of leadership.

I agree, but I would like to CLARIFY the way the question was Phrased. Bush is NOT spying on Americans. The NSA is picking up phone calls and monitoring them between KNOWN TERRORISTS or SUSPECTED TERRORISTS where the call either originates OVER SEAS or if it originates in America is placed OVERSEAS. That is ENTIRELY different then listening to calls placed in the USA to the USA between ordinary citizens. If the SAME CALL was made overseas to a location overseas there wouldnt even be anything to discuss. To think that if a TERRORIST is calling home to get instructions, that shouldnt be determined is completely ASININE. jdn
