Clinton and Carter both operated under FISA. It's the first line in both of their wiretap executive orders. Here they are:

The chimp went AROUND FISA and broke the law. He could have obeyed the law, as Clinton and Carter did, but he CHOSE to break the law.

MSNBC expert confirmed Carter and Clinton did NOT break the law and did NOT do what Bush did. They were specifically open and public about it and they followed the law to the letter, using the FISA court. Bush did not. Bush broke the law, a high crime. Expert also said Bush disobeyed constitution and falsely claimed that gave him the right. Nothing gave him the right. Nothing. Bush not only broke the law in a serious way and admitted the crime, but lied publicly about it.

Never believe Bush again.

Now we need to find out who he was really spying on. 10-1 it wasn't Al Qaida. 10-1 it was political opponents, same thing Nixon did but worse.

Ted, If you think what he's doing is fine, then you are not nearly as smart as I thought.

Did you know that Lincoln did things that far exceeded any "crime" that Bush supposedly committed? Same with FDR? Even Clinton and Carter claimed the authority to order searches without a warrant:

nationalreview.com;

People keep saying that Lincoln was a virtual dictator when he was president. I have yet to hear quite what that means in real terms but we were still a young nation trying to find our way in democracy. In fact at that time, we were not very democratic inspite of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It would not surprise me that the president then had extraodinary powers.......one because we were really at war; two it was a civil war being fought on American soil and three we probably didn't know any better. People were less focused on our rights and more focused on surviving.

And don't tell your posts are nuanced, or you are playing devil's advocate.

It's the same old thing. Democrats think they have yet another reason to impeach Bush, that what he did "this time" is the "last straw." Good night, I bet you don't even remember the number of times you've claimed this to be the case.

I find it interesting that you think its acceptable to wiretap a home without a warrant. It may or may not be the last straw but I suggest that you should not be surprised if this administration ends badly.

No need to tell me that the sum of Bush's faults are greater than what we ought to tolerate in any president. In such a partisan climate like this, do you think anyone could escape controversy?

I think you bring up partisanship at every possible turn because its you that's steeped in partisanship and its a good way for you divert attention from the real issues. You do it so often I think it clouds your judgement......in fact, I hope it clouds your judgement; otherwise one must assume you think just like Bush.

Let me put it this way. There was not one damn reason for half the things Bush does including the invasion of Iraq. I ain't buying that Bush misunderstood the intelligence. And anyone who believes his BS is a partisan hack.
