The USSC has ruled on intelligent design? News to me. Now I really want Bush to appoint more conservatives to the SC.

Science has nothing to say about core religious matters. Was there a God who arranged for certain physical constants to have values that make life possible? It can't answer that. If there was a Big Bang, was it caused by a God? Science can't answer that.

Did a God have anything to do with us being here? Science can't answer that.

That is a popular view. Science ought to be agnostic on the question of God and ultimate origins of the universe.

But in practice it isn't always. Many scientists do assert as scientific fact that no divine being had anything to do with us or the universe being here (perhaps I need to develop a list of quotes illustrating this). And they do assert this in the classrooms all the time and this does have an influence on many people's religious beliefs (or non-belief).
