I was taught it myself years long ago. Then you had an ignoramus for a teacher. The solution to that problem is to get the teacher up to speed. The solution is not to blame Darwinism or to start teaching pseudoscience instead. Darwinism is fully compatible with agnosticism and lots of prominent agnostics and atheists cite that compatibility. But it's also compatible with theism. Just look at the statistics. Eighty five or ninety percent of Americans believe in God and most of them accept evolution. How do they do that if the two are not compatible? I'm sorry you had a bad experience but generalizing inappropriately from that experience doesn't fix it. Two wrongs don't make a right.
