Labels must have meaning to be useful.

Pushing to hard for an unamigious meaning of the term causes the definition to not accurately reflect reality. Libertarians are not all dogmatic, just as liberals and conservatives are not all dogmatic.

Libertarian, even when you include the different versions, opinions and interpretations, is less fuzzy than either conservative or liberal.

You can use subterms for more specific meanings.

Look at en.wikipedia.org

It lists Factions

Minarchism
Anarcho-capitalism
Paleolibertarianism
Neolibertarianism
Left-Libertarianism
Libertarian socialism

Influences

Austrian School
Classical liberalism
Individualist anarchism

and Practices

Capitalism
Liberty
Non-aggression
Objectivism

There are similar breakdowns here
en.wikipedia.org

It would appear to be an argument for efficiency or clarity more than anything.

Those are a couple of its charms. Efficiency, clarity, simplicity--those are good things in a system.
