Well, your post sounded distinctly non-Libertarian to me

He was expressing a moral philosophy, not a political one. Where the two are compatible is that his sense of morality relies on the individual to make his own decisions and to do so in his "enlightened, long-term self interest," as Ayn Rand would say. Being enlightened is recognizing in your soul the convergence of your your long-term self interest with the common good and acting morally within the community. Which is not the same as the collective determining the common good and making rules about it.
