Bush's invasion/occupation drove Iran into the hands of extremists. And if this election in Iraq puts Islamics in charge (as it looks like it's doing) those Shia Islamics might ally themselves with Iran government, which is very hostile to Israel and the US. Thereby creating a new alliance which makes the ME even less secure in the future.

Remember, some in the oil business actually want this. The more tensions in the ME the more they can charge for oil, and the more new wilderness areas they can get into and "rape".
