unclewest, I'm curious as to your opinion on the fact that the 5% of the world's population that lives in the United States spend the same amount on their military as the entire other 95% of the world's population. (In 2005, we're on track to spend around $600 billion, counting Iraq) Since all we citizens pay for it, and not just in taxes, but in not having things like universal health care, do YOU think it's justified?

Compared to most other countries, we are much less at risk, with Canada and Mexico as land neighbors and vast oceans seperating us from everyone else. We might be attacked, but it's VERY unlikely we'll be invaded. Why do you think we're so paranoid?

You're tilted so far to the right that you think megacorporate media is liberal. Right-o. That's why the AP failed to run the Downing Street Memos. That's why the NYTimes sat on the illegal domestic spying story for a year. That's why the NYTimes ran Judith Miller's stories championing the rightwing propaganda for war.

The US military is stuck, fighting a very long 'war' against a ragtag insurgency in a third world country less than 1/10th our size devastated by decades of oppression and sanctions.

THAT is reality. It makes the US look WEAK. It makes the US look VULNERABLE.

On top of everything, we're spending $500 BILLION and who knows how many ruined lives to install a fundamentalist Islamic Theocracy on top of the world's second largest oil reserves.

Why are we fighting to install political organizations like the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq?

Why?
