I think it has more to do with the level of achievement that makes people satisfied. Liberals seem to want everyone to adore them for being brilliant. Conservatives seem to be more down to earth, and derive satisfaction from knowing what they have accomplished, whether anyone else does or not. Plus Liberals are stuck on what everyone else will do for them, conservatives are trying to help others while they help themselves. It used to be called Noblesse Oblige.
