slightly off topic....I was remembering listening to the radio the night in Novembe 1994 when the Republicans pulled off the amazing shift in power under the auspices of the Contract with America. The commentators on the conservative station I was listening to were so excited about the chance for the republicans to finally bring integrity to Congress, to clean up the long-standing scandels of the Democratic leadership (like the House bank - famous at the time), to implement a new way of doing business based on solid principles of honesty and business values. The commentators were absolutely convinced that the Contract with America showed that the Republicans would not fall prey to the corruption of power. It would be a new dawn.

Putting aside whether one is a demo or a repub, or neither, it is too bad this did not happen. The faith of the electorate could have been restored, which polls would indicate has certainly not happened. The recent news about Abramoff would indicate 2006 will be another filthy year, to everyone's loss.
