When I was in elementary school, we went out to pick Strawberries for part of a morning. Not sure it made the intended impression, which may have been an appreciation of how hard farm laborers worked, and how food gets on the table. Stoop labor seems easy when you only do it for a few hours and you are short enough close to the ground. On the other hand, this was the middle 1950s, when everyone was expected to work once past childhood.
