Some people don't realize that recovery from the effects of the former Russian Empire is still a work in progress. I see it first hand when I visit Bulgaria, where the economy completely collapsed, and it is still in throes of a long and painful recovery with very high unemployment. If the affluent North Americans had gone through a fraction of the hardship that the peoples of Eastern Europe have had to endure they wouldn't be so quick to criticize. Enjoy the Christmases and have a Happy Hogmanay too.
