When World War 1 began and the German army invaded Belgium, the allies began to circulate mostly phoney atrocity stories about German crimes against the helpless Belgians. Even back then most people had forgotten about the heinous crimes of that nation in the Congo which included cutting off the hands of Africans who did not work hard enough digging up diamonds for King Leopold.

Now present day Belgians are no more responsible for the atrocities committed by King Leopold a hundred years ago then modern Germans are responsible for Hitler's crimes.

Still these things ought not to be forgotten.
