Fillmore > Such behaviour is an act of such extreme arrogance that it resembles an act of war, which loses Tel Aviv whatever little support it had in the hearts and minds of the international community, even in the USA.

Clearly, Israel doesn't care. It far prefers the state of no war / no peace to having to sit down and negotiate peace (and respectability) for land.

I'm sure you know that there are many in Israel who regard the loss (to the Palestinians) of even one inch of "occupied" land as a tragedy of the greatest magnitude. As far as they are concerned, God gave them Judea and Sumeria -- and they're keeping it come what may. Further, any politician who attempts to negotiate an exchange of land for peace, or even suggests it, is a traitor and a dog. That's, in fact, why Rabin was murdered and if Sharon looks serious about something similar they'll kill him too. Surprisingly, and as I understand it, the worst extremists are not Israelis per se but settlers from New York. Although they were born in the US, and some may even be Jewish by conversion, they regard their claim to land in the "occupied" territories to be more legitimate than that of those who were born there and whose families lived there for generations.
