The environment for the big players in that industry is probably better than ever. As the author notes, barriers to entry are higher than ever due to development costs.

What is happening now is the typical product cycle causing consumers to pull back in buying new games this holiday season. Wishful thinking that it would be different this time was nonsense. The next three quarters will probably be even worse. By next Christmas there will be ample supply of both the xbox360 and Playstation III, and ERTS will be stronger than ever.

Not if half the kids are like my son -- video game junkie. I saw a lot of games being bought when I shopped for him -- new game systems might not be the rage, cause there have been so many released last couple of years -- but games are popular
