Fear brings drama to the dull lives of the people. They forget that they can't afford health care, or rationalize that it serves the war effort in some fashion.

The military-government-industrial complex in this country is a master at ginning up the fear. Whenever anyone seriously raises the question as to WHY we, 5% of the world's population needs to spend what the other 95% does on our military, the fear is reinforced. The people here are trained better than Pavlov's dog. We're still spending like the cold war never ended, even though the "enemy" is now just a scruffy bunch of terrorists. We're still building the multi-hundred billion dollar weapons systems.

We HAVE to have at least one war a generation, so we'll have experienced veteran warfighters and use the weapons systems we've built. As this logic grinds on, generation after generation, our wars are endless. And we've been taught that this ISN'T crazy, but is just prudent.
