It's very hard to tell what the government is. Even in the 'peaceful' south, it seems like the 'government' has one force while the militia has another.

The Kurdish militia have already said long ago that they will not take orders from Baghdad so what in the heck is the government anyway?

Democrats and Republicans don't much trust each other in the US of A, if one 'side' doesn't get overwhelming power and squashes the other 'side' in Iraq, will there be relative peace anytime soon? Even Allawi has made noises (but apparently little electoral headway) about the need for a strong man in Iraq.

Shades of Saddam. It's amazing and really absurd to think that the murderous thug Saddam had better control over his country than US martial law.
