Well, "John." The text just calls him "the disciple."

I don't know about you, but if all I knew about something other than this was that somebody said wrote that somebody else wrote about it when most of the context is improbable (giving sight to the blind, healing lepers), I probably wouldn't believe it.

Lots of Romans wrote stories about Zeus, but that doesn't mean Zeus existed.
