You're changing the definition of the word in every dictionary on the planet. Sorry. Even the highlighted portion of you link describes the US NOT as an empire, but:

As I said... it certainly an interesting point to discuss the US role in the world using comcepts like similarities, etc... IMO more interesting is American Corporations... which is a whole different ball of wax... but you've misused the word empire... period. No one with any political science credentials would label the US an "empire" except as perhaps a characterization to sell books or some such thing.

Of course... and I agree, it WAS like an empire. The US has nothing to do with that.
