It looks as if you aren't familiar with Leo Strauss though given present American imperial policies reading up on him might expand your view.

For those looking for an anology to describe the US ascention to power I would suggest that the words "Ponzi", pathological debtor, or perhaps shell game artist fits the bill. The coming crash of $US is going to be quite an eye opener to the world as to the 'real' "power" of the US. I do like the term 'empire' in the example of the "emporer's" new cloths!!!
