"what is with the disconnect between supposed earnings and retained value over such a long time period (10 yrs, and 1yr), at a company that pays no dividends?" Creative accounting. Check out statement of cash flows the last three years for the answer and it is amazing how much is left after issuing more shares and capital expenditures/investments that remain on the asset side and get expensed over a long period of time under accrual accounting.. finance.yahoo.com
