This may be an odd question but..if they can inject oxygen into a cheap wine to make it taste like a good wine, what's wrong with that? You could even argue that they would be justified in charging a good price for it if it tasted as good as a higher priced wine.

Just musing out loud.

The secondary fermentation was recycled from a Lebanese Oenologist who pushed it in Burgundy in the eighties when he moved there. The wines got fruitier and cleaner but lost their identifying teroir.

I hope your property is cleaning up. I would not want to have to deal with the mess you must be combating.

The wines your friend has left are magnificent ones. I have bought and drank Stags Leap '87 Cabernet - marvelous, but well over $20. I have bought and drank Guigal Brun et Blond Cotes Rotie - marvelous, but a little over $20. Guigal's three named Cotes Rotie vineyards La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque are reputed to be the best wines of Cotes Rotie, and possibly of Rhone. They are outrageously valuable. I have seen bottles from all three, but they have never passed these lips.

The 1989 Lynch Bages is excellent. I have opened a bottle, I is richer and fuller than the ‘88 or the '86. The '76 was similar in stature but not quite as robust. The '72 was ok in its day.

Last week we drank some Chateau Saint Michelle '85 York Creek Vineyard that was $18 a bottle several years ago. I had feared it dead, but found it slightly past its prime yet full and flavorful. The tannins were less pronounced than they had been when first bought.
