Yes, I see what you mean. I remember when we had the 1992 Yonge Street riot, which from the accounts I read was basically a massive opportunistic smash and grab led by some street thugs, totally unrelated to race or disadvantagement. The rioting was rewarded by the NDP government with all kinds of cash for special programs for the black community -- and all sorts of apologies as if the rioting was the fault of the government for not taking care of the rioters well enough beforehand. Toronto has some serious problems, and they are not going to be fixed by people being in denial or throwing money at the issues. Part of the question has to be, has our immigration system been working well to bringing in enough of the types of citizens that make or country stronger, or is it an underfunded, ineffective bureaucracy that allows in people who burden down our social programs and divide our society? I'd like to see a private members bill that has the Minister of Immigration house his family at Jane and Finch or one of the many other notorious housing projects in Scarborough and Toronto. Maybe they would see that our immigration system needs to set the bar a bit higher.
