I don't want to single out any one community -- certainly in any population, hard criminals, especially the kind of thugs who have shoot-outs in crowded public places, make up a very small percentage. But at the same time, unless there are some controls that guarantee otherwise, should we be surprised if we see immigrant populations show crime rates that approach the countries they came from, in the absence of socializing forces that would change things?

As for spreading public housing out all over, I think that there is enough of that, and I don't think it is a good idea. Can we sure that the "advantaged kids" won't be brought down to the level of the "disadvantaged kids", rather than the other way around? Actually, before I moved to Calgary I lived in a nice neighbourhood in North York that had one small public housing townhouse complex which was almost next door to me. The police were always there. Some friends who lived nearby moved far out to the suburbs because of the few bad kids from that complex who made life hell for their kids in school. It didn't seem to me that having that island of public housing was changing anything for the people who lived in it except spreading the misery around to others.

The other issue I have is the whole public housing idea... it is no different than prisons IMO and a neat way for the left to put all the poor people in one place ... in someone else's backyard... Public housing should be MUCH smaller pockets and far more spread out in ALL neighbourhoods...

Ghetto's generally expand and contract with the population. I think the problem lies in not educating people on what parts of their cultures we welcome, and what parts they need to leave the heck at home.
