I worked in a chemical plant.
My job was to hand tools to people who knew how to use them.
The rest of the time I used a steam hose to melt grease off of 30 foot tall tanks.
I lasted two months, but I really needed the money.

re: Has anyone on this thread ever worked in a factory? One summer, I got a job working in a tv factory. I lasted a month.

Funny, I worked in a TV factory... lasted a week. Worst job I ever had. But I also worked in a number of other factory/warehouse jobs during the summer when I was kid, from the time I was 15 through college.

You know every time now when I go into a building that is similar.....with concrete block wall 'accents' and those small windows that don't open so you have to breath canned air, I start to get uncomfortable. It happens to me every time I go into Costco's. <g>

They kept telling us that we were real lucky to have the job because my plant was supposed to be the last tv plant in the country. At the time, I thought they were screwing with our heads but in retrospect, they were probably right. I don't think we produce TVs anywhere in this country now.

I built fiberglass ski boats for a summer. Hard, boring work, with the added fun of itchy fiberglass dust getting all over you and working with nasty chemicals and solvents. I learned how to build things out of fiberglass, not that I ever have since.
