I am amused by your "adult" lecture, but you still haven't exactly shown how Bono allegedly linked himself to conservative politics. What the article said he did is that he managed to shame some conservatives into greater anti-AIDS efforts. Which is a good and impressive thing and all, considering the homophobia the right still wears on its sleeve often enough. But how that constitutes Bono "linking himself to conservative politics" is one of those looking glass logic things. Immediately following your chosen quote:

Instead, he enlisted the ruling right of American politics.

“Particularly conservative Christians, I was very angry that they were not involved more in the AIDS emergency. I was saying, ‘this is the leprosy that we read about in the New Testament, you know. Christ hung out with the lepers. But you're ignoring the AIDS emergency,” says Bono. “How can you? And, you know, they said, ‘Well, you're right, actually. We have been. And we're sorry. We'll get involved.’ And they did.”

Again, it's nice that he managed to shame the "Christian" right into action on his cause, but it doesn't mean he's aligned himself with their ridiculous politics.
