Crazy, but it's all about their own guilt. The Austrians feel the way to erase the atrocities of the Third Reich etc is to lean over backwards in the other direction. That's why it's a crime there to mention the Holocaust, let alone suggest it didn't happen in the way the "official" version says it did.
