In fact, until this last election, VA had a GOP governor and went for Bush twice. Usually, N. VA is the deciding vote because of its large population base as compared to the rest of the state.

Hmmm...the current governor of VA is Mark Warner, potential presidential candidate for 2008 and a Democrat. The successor, Tim Kaine, is also a Democrat.

Of course, as far as Dems go, Warner is very conservative. Kaine is less conservative but really only won because of the negative feelings towards the Republicans around election day.
