I think you just get the interest deduction on TWO, but not three houses. If enough congresspeople buy three houses, it'll probably expand.

What's wrong with tax breaks that have a cap (like the 500/250k sale break, and the interest breaks) to prevent the really wealthy from gaming them? 70% of Americans own homes today and can take advantage of these tax breaks. Are 70% of Americans "the rich"?

I personally think the interest deduction break should be limited to the house you live in, to discourage speculation.
