Its the same reason why immigration is encouraged in this country and why there is not significant pressure to curtail illegal immigration. Cheap labor is at the bottom of it. I don't see how that makes the Lebanese the victims of the government, esp. I don't see how that makes them the victims of the government's immigration policy. They wanted to immigrate, the government was giving them what they want. When someone gives you what you want you usually don't go back later and accuse them of victimizing you by doing so. When you go out of your way to invite people to your country, the people have a right to believe they will be treated fairly. That's not what has happened in AU. The people have been funneled into suburbs southwest of Sydney. There are 'special' neighborhoods in other AU cities as well. When it comes to jobs and housing, they face considerable discrimination whether they are Christian or Muslim. In fact, as I mentioned before, AU has a history of discrimination....first with the aborigines, then the Indonesians, then the gypsies and the Spaniards, then the Greeks, and now the Lebanese. I don't know what their laws are but if they have equal opportunity laws, they seem to be poorly enforced. So under the circumstances, I see the gov't to be the one at fault here. After all, its not a surprise that that there are ethnic problems in AU. Why make them worse by opening the country to emigrants from other non-Anglo Saxon countries? Wanting cheap labor is not a good enough reason IMO. ted
