The current situation is again demonstrating that inflationary policies get widespread support in their early stages. True CPI inflation is accelerating and much higher than official statistics show. But home prices in many bubble markets have doubled in the last 5 years, while the major stock market indexes are up 40-50% since the 2002 lows. The later stages of the inflation cycle will be much more painful as price pressures shift from the things people own to the things they must buy.
