I'd like to have a 12-month contest, rather than 11. Elroy is away so we can't start a 2006 contest on 1/3, but we could as of 1/10. Do you want to run it again?

Actually 2005's "january effect" - which means for all stocks, was the worst since 1982. Google makes it easy to search for this stuff.

From a bloomberg article dated 1/25/05,

The earlier losses contributed to a three-week losing streak for the Dow average, which began 2005 with its worst start to a year since 1982.

Anyway I have said all along that this market is similar to the 70s markets which were as bad as the 90s were good. In other words we are in the middle of the worst market I will probably see in my lifetime and it has gone on for 5 years. Joe public is short, basically. Which is why I am long.
