I agree with you.

I think the problem is that the extremes have become
more extreme than ever and the public is virtually
blanketed with propaganda on a daily basis. The propaganda
is artfully packaged. It sometimes comes in the form
of a pretense of "centrism" or "progressive thought" so
as to convince the sh/peeple of their moral superiority
should they subscribe to the talking points du jour.

That's my cynical view.

If pressed, I agree that most people would find themselves
in the fifty percent of the curve comprising the center,
and immediate right and left quarters. That IS
most people. They are also the ones who elect
the President. The battle is for their hearts and souls
(read: votes) and the
packaging of "centrism" is central to that endeavor.
