There is such an unconditional belief that "they" have everything under control, promising forever increasing prosperity, which is continuously reinforced by the seemingly irrelevance of major events such as wars, natural disasters, and debt. Nothing matters unless "they" say it does. It is always sunny, never cloudy, and if you are soaking wet, it is just your dark imagination.

This year I was completely wrong in my assumption as to the strength of the US dollar. But gold is much higher than I could have hoped, and now it seems that gold is going higher in spite of the strength of the dollar.

I have read that Buffet lost a lot of money in his bet against the dollar, so I am in good company. He should have bought gold instead.
