There are serious environmental issues and mining companies have been irresponsible in far too many areas.

As you may know, I am an extremely heavy investor in mining companies but it doesn't mean that I ignore the environmental risks. This doesn't do any of us any good. The key IMO is to mine responsibly and if this makes mining and therefore natural resources more expensive, so be it. We need to confront real costs and real costs include the costs to limit damage to the place where we live.
