dunno the rules

but have transported perhaps as many as 20 ounces at a time across custom borders to fulfill payment without declaration, was prepared to claim legal tender status

I use the Tit for Tat rule: face value

Allows for transportation of much more than 20oz gold for $10,000!

I am not certain about but think the $10,000 rule applies to cash and marketable securities and that separate customs rules apply to other items of value.
