Dan, what the article does not mention is that the drilling on all the MRDDF properties is already being financed by the Majors with contracts similar to the following:

"Barrick can earn a 60% interest in the Horse Mountain property by spending $2.0 million in exploration expenditures over four years, of which $300,000 is committed to be expended prior to December 31, 2006. After completing the 60% earn-in phase, Barrick can elect to earn up to an additional 10% interest in the Horse Mountain project (for a total 70% interest) by funding up to an additional $6.0 million in exploration over a six year period scheduled with a minimum annual work commitment of $1,000,000. Upon completion of a feasibility study, Barrick can earn an additional 5% interest (for a total of 75% interest) by arranging to finance Miranda's share of project financing."

I am sure that McEwen has a master plan but if he is going to create another GG it does not seem that buying MRDDF fits into logical game plan.

The rich get richer, MRDDF also has partnerships with Newcrest Resources Inc., Newmont Mining Company, Placer Dome U.S. Inc., Agnico-Eagle (USA) Limited, and Golden Aria Corp.

There is probably a premium in MRDDF due to speculation caused by McEwen but I would not buy MRDDF for any other reason than there is a lot of drilling on their properties by their partners.

PDG has partnerships with many of the small caps in the trend already.
IMHO the best way to participate in the "Cortez Trend Play" is through ABX, but what fun is that<g>.

Disclaimer: positions in ABX, MRDDF.ob

I've been into the Cortez for nearly two years now, and about breaking even! Okay, I started buying much too soon, way before McEwen's Cortez presence started to shine brightly. My major purchase was Nevada Pacific, on which I'm nearly even after the McEwen run up. Sigh. Then again, I bought USGL at a buck, watched it tank to about forty cents, and now at about three and a half. A real zombie pup! Nevada Pacific and Miranda were my first picks for the next McEwen pickup after White Knight and USGL, looking at the Cortez map, but I already owned enough Nevada, and Miranda kept running away from me, and I never did buy in. Coral and Tone were not unexpected acquisitions, but nowhere near the top of the list, and so the timing was a surprise. And while McEwen paid a nice premium for Coral and Tone (which I don't own), he got Nevada Pacific at BELOW market, though it popped afterwards, of course. Typical Chicken Pox. The hot new action is in the southern Cortez, and so the prime acquisition targets I see now are Bravo Venture (I bought, it tanked, more Chicken Pox), Miranda again, the Mill City/Minterra semi-twins (already running up hard, I got a partial fill only on Minterra), and Staccato Gold (left me spinning, running up hard on a new strike, maybe also McEwen rumors). Most of these are moving so fast now that I can't make myself chase them. As far as a quick McEwen play, any acquisition will result in a pop, but there is a big difference between, say, NPG.V and USGL.OB. BTW, my personal opinion, I guessing that McEwen wants to prove he is "The Man" wrt gold mining, and further prove that Red Lake and Goldcorp weren't just a fluke. I'm thinking that he grabbed USGL not just because it had a decent deposit he could scoop up cheap, but more because he wanted the name. What better name than US Gold for the premier gold mining company in the Yoo-Ess-of-Ay??? There are a number of smaller juniors with Cortez properties, get a map and go for it! But the best odds have to go to Bravo Venture, Miranda, Mill City, Minterra and Staccato. But are they worth ponying up for now, given what they've run already? I dunno.

NC

P.S. - I also own J-Pacific Gold, somewhere in the middle of the McEwen acquisition list (where I thought Tone and Coral were!!!), and, of course, am still way underwater on it. Like I said, get a Cortez map and look for the potential zombie pups that haven't broken the surface yet! ;o)
