hello carranza2, <<As Teotwawki approaches, does it make sense to engage in a pleasant hobby such as numismatics or does it make more sense to metalize the exotic coins into more pedestrian but better value holding coins or bullion?>>

Yes, we are going toward TeoTwawKi, and again yes, pleasant hobbies, especially within the context of mineralization, and it helps to pass the time.

I am chromo-micro-coded to be an optimist, and the trip to TeoTwawKi should be enjoyed; it is a journey where none knows the destination, many guesses, and yet, so far, some seem to have it spot-on, or at least close enough for most practical purposes, as if they have read the script.

The altruistic few, as many are on SI, share their read of the script.

Take for example this script that was dashed off in February of 2001 Message 15421566 before Enron anything and Fannie everything else. Why, it seems the script is still playing out, inexorably choreographed towards the grand finale, TeoTwawki Dawn, that final moment of absolutely crystal clear realization by many that … “oops, I do not want to go there”.

Later, in September of 2001, you and I met on line, and here is a bit of our initial discussion on all that we should be looking forward to Message 16313419
<<September 7th, 2001
Hi carranza2, <<event ... much different ... What is going to save it ... 1987 crash ... binge?>> You are talking very darkly.

The saviors, as always, but on a much bigger scale, will be dismal revelations, declines, delinquencies, defaults, devaluation, depreciation, down grades, bankruptcies, anguish, regret, pain, suffering, time, need to eat, friendship for neighbors, hope for families, and wish for a better future, plus a lot of cash on the sidelines that stayed on the sidelines, out of harms way.

Do not hesitate. When you come to a fork on the road, do not hesitate, do not dawdle, make a choice, and move, fast, steady, without hesitation; take the fork, either branch.

I remind Maurice often that collapse is not an event, but a process, and I venture to guess that we are only about 5% of the way into the process. I also reminded Maurice on numerous occasions Message 17391770 , “The most outrageous is always saved for the last moment of the script.”

Specifically on gold, I figure Message 21941081 is one possible script.

C2, I wonder whether the shift to a gold dinar is propelling the price of gold substantially.

It would not surprise me if Al Q and Islamic Jihad and Moslems in general figure that gold dinar ruling the world would be excellent and they have the oil which they can insist on selling for gold, not dollars, euro, yen or yuan.

I think they won't do any better than the Hunt brothers in cornering the silver market.

I think Big Ben and Uncle Sam will win the competition. Easily.
