Are they? Do you remember the '60s, American cars, and the VW? What American car could you get in that price range of comparable quality? Remember the '80s? The Japanese cars and Detroit? Who produced better cheaper cars? Do you believe American consumers are fools or simply willing to be gouged by incompetent greedy American auto makers? Or is it possible that the loss of business suffered by American auto makers forced them to come up with ways to be competitive? Suppose the Germans and Japanese had been held out by high tariffs. Are you saying the American consumer should be FORCED by his gov't to buy high priced crud? This gives the global companies a bigger profit, and the belief that they can put any old kind of product on the market, and the stupid consumers will buy it. You seem to assume a monopoly or at least a cooperating oligarchy of companies. Suppose a company refuses to go along or breaks the agreement. Will the consumer buy a piece of crud knowingly when he is now offered a better product cheaper? The main problem today, is the global corporations that don't give a rats ass what happens to their employees. Hmmmmm? My experience is that larger businesses generally offer better salaries and better bennies than small. Most large companies offer health insurance. Many small companies don't. Now that has to do with the insurance industry, the way it works, and cold mathematical statistics, but that changes nothing. Their actions, and attitudes, are going to, seriously, mess things up for the medium size businesses. I don't see why. If medium sized businesses produce good quality products at competitive prices, they should do just fine. Suppose, after other expenses, a family of 5 has only $400 left and it costs $100 a month to feed a person buying strictly American products or $80 allowing some foreign products. Do you buy the cheaper foreign-American mixture, shoot one family member, or allow all to slowly starve?
