I think it is reductio ad absurdum to say that the reason DELL does not offer AMD (or by extension, any other maker of CPU) is that they don't have sufficiently well-trained or motivated salespeople, or that they can't be bothered.

The AMD section was a minor part of the article in which the business model was explained and analysed critically.

So far I have only commented on the arguments used. My own opinon is that DELL's adoption of AMD will first depend on whether the negative financial impact of not offering it reaches critical mass before Intel achieves parity or better in performance - if ever.

No doubt DELL will have privileged access to Intel's stuff and will not wait if believes that Intel is not going to make it. But it will give Intel the benefit of any doubt because Intel as sole-supplier fits its business model better.
