"But CIA did NOT like the conclusion of his research, so cut off the funding, and instructed the university to fire this (tenured) professor"
Sine you spend 29 years in China you can be excused for believing in this nonsense.

What I see for China is chain of industrial and environmental disasters leading to the collapse of food supplies,
at the same time economic growth will be undermined by high commodity prices - this will
result in civil discontent culminating into split into several countries.
Chinese patriotism manifesting itself in the desires to hide problems from the outside world would only amplify the
problems

"BTW, I remembered about 8 some years ago, there was a professor in Honolulu University did a similar research, on request and funded by CIA. And his conclusion was that it is very unlikely China would collapse into chaos and separated into numerous nations. But CIA did NOT like the conclusion of his research, so cut off the funding, and instructed the university to fire this (tenured) professor. The university did just that. But the Prof. went to court and won."

Well the CIA would not have any authority to fire a tenured professor from his position at a University. I suspect you got your information here:

english.people.com.cn

He wasn't fired from his position as a professor, he was removed from a project that was funded by the CIA.

Not as insidious as the first article would make it sound.

From another article: "By blackballing Fuller without giving a reason, the spy agency has stirred concerns on campus that it might be trying to slant a major academic study to match its views on China. A U.S. intelligence official familiar with the CIA's analysis dismissed these concerns as ``utterly ridiculous.'' ``While there are ethnic tensions in China it is simply not the CIA's view that such tensions will lead to an ethnic breakup of China,'' said the official, who declined to be identified."
