But what is LEFT UNSAID is the fact that every journey, whether physical, political, or spiritual, begins with the first step. And each and every following step must be nurtured and protected by those who have an interest in advancing the cause of democracy over totalitarianism.

But really what is LEFT UNSAID is that this Iraq War is pure and unadulterated SHAM! If there is no oil in Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East and Israel is not located near Iraq and Iran, I am sure there will be no noble-sounding claptrap about democratizing Iraq from the US.

Have you studied the history of the Middle East from the time of the collapse of the Ottoman Empire (ca. 1910) to the subsequent occupation of, and arbitrary carving up of, and exploitation of the Middle East for its oil by Britain and France and to more recent times? If you have, you will have noticed that the colonial powers regarded the Arabs as subhumans and did very little or nothing to help the Arabs embrace democracy. At that time, there was little trouble between the colonials and colonial masters, and I believe this was largely due to the non-existence of Israel. Trouble came from the Kurds, however, and Winston Churchill, the so-called last of the English gentlemen, bombed and killed many of them with poison gas. Churchill justified his action by claiming the Kurds were subhumans! Think of this Western prejudice! To be sure, this prejudice is not absent in Bush and his neocons and lots of unthinking Americans.

The cruel and unkind treatment of the Arabs by the colonial masters have, no doubt, created much resentment, indignation and a desire for revenge. So have the unfair and excessive exploitation of the Arabs' oil in more recent times and disrespect for their culture created a wellspring of anger, hatred and desire for revenge. It is therefore not surprising Al-Qaeda came into being. So, really who was it that started all the confontation and armed conflict? You know, there is no smoke without fire. To be sure, the hands of the US and its allies are not squeaky clean in this matter! Yet Bush brazenly proclaimed that 9/11 was an unprovoked attack! What a crock! Your leaders are sadly ignorant of history.

What is LEFT UNSAID is that the US realizes her power is on the decline and is desperate to ensure her hegemony worldwide will continue to endure. For this, the US seeks to ensure she has total access and control of the vast supplies of oil in the Middle East. For oil is "black gold" and the industrial life blood of industries! Bush and his neocons feel that if they make no attempt to control the oil, another power such as China could/would step in with dire consequences for the US.

I suppose you know that in another 35-40 years, according to the projections of Goldman Sachs and kindred folks, the Chinese economy will outstrip that of the US. And with dominant economic power, other forms of power will accrue to China. The neocons cannot tolerate a competitor. And so they have started to emasculate the rising power of China by making military alliances with countries to encircle China. Although Bush and his neocons have not said so, they are concerned about China as a competitor and all the more so especially when she now has atomic weapons, a successful space program, strong industrial and manufacturing capacity, a huge (1.3 B) and highly nationalistic population, and economic power and influence worldwide. Go and read about the New Cold War and articles on China and India at Gwynne Dyer's website, gwynnedyer.com and be enlightened.

Everyone will do well to understand that many things occur in cycles, and so it is with the rise and fall of civilizations and world powers.

A time was when Great Britain was the world's top dog and France was not far behind. But their power and influence began to wane from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. They got jealous of Germany which was fast rising in industrial and economic might in the early 1900s. As if to assure/(ensure) themselves they were still calling the shots, Britain and France waged war (WWI) against Germany to nip her power in the bud!

Right now the Bushies are setting up China as an enemy despite declarations and indications to the contrary. To be sure, they are very worried about Iran's friendly relations with China. What is best to do now? A pre-emptive strike against Iran, eh? But, of course, if they do, they would be using other kinds of excuses & etc, the more noble-sounding, the better!

Hawk,

America is a great country made up of a majority (they have to be!) of folks who live by the rule of law, are not corrupted to take what is not theirs, or to lie, manipulate, and use their resources to further their criminal agenda.

My main complaint with this country is a corrupt government (Republican AND Democrat) who are not honorable people.

Sure there are numerous corrupt retarded governments around the world, but do we have to emulate them?

"every following step must be nurtured and protected by those who have an interest in advancing the cause of democracy over totalitarianism."

We had better watch our own steps...
