Wrong. If Democrats veer to the left they will be defeated in every single national election by a landslide and will not take back congress in 2006. No anti-war liberal has ever won a national election. That is partly because the electoral system is skewed toward rural voters and rural voters are mainly pro-military. So are most swing-states.

Look at Ohio and Florida, the two decisive states. Both are filled with pro-military Americans. But Ohio especially is now fed up with Bush, not for the war so much, but for general corruption and always siding with the CEO's against working people. Basically for n ot giving a damn about real people.

Keep in mind, Bush is only unpopular now because most of the the 40% in the vast middle (centrists and moderates) have turned against him. Anti-war liberals (who always were against Bush) only make up about 30% and they are mainly concentrated in deep blue states. They balance out rightwingers who are mostly in deep red states. So whomever wins the middle wins it all. In the last few elections that's been split down the middle, and it was the smear campaign accusing Kerry of being anti-military that gave a slight edge to Bush last time, possible Diebold voting machine fraud in Ohio and other states not-withstanding.

In 2006, congress is very winnable for the Democrats. But the balance of power will probably be decided by less than 10% of the people in the very center. So those are the people we have to appeal to, not needlessly play to the leftwing base. The leftwing base needs to be there 100%, and never to make the same mistake they made in 2000 giving credence to that liar Nader. The one who said there was no difference between Bush and Gore. There was a HUGE difference, as we know have learned the hard way.
