"AMD is trying to develop sufficient power to handle this kind of situation - "

If nothing else, that is what Chartered is all about. As long as the Dell portion doesn't exceed what they are contracting out to Chartered, then they are insulated from those games to the extent that Dell can't push them significantly below what they charge others by threatening to abruptly drop them.

Then they can make other concessions like leasing some nearby warehouse space for JIT, offering engineering help, etc. without too much pain.

I don't know...I keep thinking that might all change with Apple over time. Dell's status may no longer be the one and only 'INTEL ONLY' volume supplier. Coupled with a popular niche product (MAC OS) which INTEL can use to battle Microsoft with, might leave Dell wondering where INTEL's strategy remains. I'd be thinking about it if I was running that company.

Something tells me these PIB's that are being offered might be a popularity test run to see if they can sell any AMD machine in volume.

Just a couple of thoughts.
