six years ago with a previous doctor i got emails on changes in lab test and recommended changes in medication.

The medical profession has always worked on the basis that test results were none of the patient's business. That was why I was so surprised to see the move to this kind of openness.

The other surprise was "same day results." Labs usually take several days. Especially with lineup for lab tests yesterday morning. Holiday weekend was the reason. I must have had twenty "Aunties" ahead of me.

To top it off, the online site now has an "ask your Pharmicist" email site. I sent them a question about the new drug charges, and got a same-day answer.

Not used to that kind of medical efficiency.

i asked my dr. if we could get on line lab results and changes to meds if required. no way. i was lucky to get his email address with warning. i get a ton of email from hospital and education articles from the college. it would be easy to miss an email best to continue with phone.

Tell your doctor to get a second e-mail address dedicated to patient communications only.

Plus you got an audit trail.

Maybe that's what he's concerned about.

I have a friend who is a family practice physician, and he givees out his cell number to his patients. He's busy, but enormously popular with his patients.
